Off Track Events

Posted By

It's very odd for me to have a Saturday off, with no obligations to MU or either of my jobs. My main option was, of course, sleep. My other option was to get my friends together and go out for a ride. Somehow, I managed to gather four of my sleepy friends together, some coming in from as far as Rolla, to join me at 9AM at Flat Branch Park for the MidMOBRR. The proceeds from MidMOBRR went to Mizzou Children's Hospital in the Fight Against Pediatric Diabetes. The day started with a lot of groaning, a hula skirt (I was a luau girl for the ride), and several cups of strong coffee. I was joined by a rat who was being chased by a cat, the devil, and George Bush (all costumed friends, of course). It was a gorgeous day, a bit chilly, but the scenery quickly stopped any complaints. The turning of the leaves was beautiful, but there were also some interesting people along the way. Danny, Sandy, a boombox, and the rest of the Grease cast passed me while I managed to pass Tinky Winky and Zo (Teletubbies) a number of times. When my group arrived in downtown Rocheport, we were met with a delicious hot meal. Everyone got the chance to relax a bit, and check out the area. My group went to the 'creepy tunnel' and tried to scare ourselves, but the warm sun, gentle breeze, and leaves falling to the ground wouldn't allow it. Many in the group were dreading the trek back to Columbia, but with a little patience and a couple of stops, we made it. It was a very relaxing way to spend a Saturday, and I'm very thankful to Off Track Events for giving me a fun, active alternative to staying in bed.

This coming Saturday (Nov. 17) I will be getting out of bed and putting on my costume (this time I'll be a bag of jelly beans) for XCX, a 'Cross Country Extreme' race that is just a little over 4 miles long. The proceeds are going to Columbia Second Chance. To get the details, go to http://www.midmobrr.com/xcx.html
